    FAQs

Can I use homemade cookies instead of Oreos?

Of course! Use homemade sugar cookies or any other cookie of your choice as a base for the monster eyes; just be sure to add a white frosting or icing on top before adding the colored frosting.

Is there a substitute for candy eyeballs?

If candy eyeballs are unavailable, you can make your own with melted white chocolate and dark chocolate or use marshmallows and chocolate chips to mimic the eyeball effect.

Can I use other colors of gel frosting?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with different colors of gel frosting to create a variety of monster eye cookies. You can match the colors with the rest of your Halloween decor if you wish.

How do I store leftover gel frosting?

Store leftover gel frosting in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks, or refer to the product’s packaging for it’s proper storage instructions.

    Storage & Freezing

Storage: These spooky treats do not store long very well, as the gel frosting tends to stay sticky. Make as many as you can enjoy in one sitting. Discard or eat the chocolate wafer without frosting (the other side of the Oreo cookie).

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Use different cookies. Any sandwich cookies with cream filling that you can find at your locak grocery store. Try a different flavor of Oreo cookie for a different look and flavor of treat. Or make your own cookies and add frosting to them. Try my Texas Sheet Cake Cookies for a base, and a simple Powdered Sugar and Water icing or even a cream cheese frosting for the white top.
    • Try different Candy Eyeballs. Use other kinds of candy eyeballs like a bloodshot eye or different sizes for a different look. You can make homemade versions of the eyeballs using white candy melts or white chocolate and dark chocolate that’s melted, or by using a little bit of white and black frostings, or even marshmallows with mini chocolate chips. You could even use Reese's pieces with a dot of black frosting for colored eyes!
    • Change the colors. Use different colors and types of edible gel or food coloring to create diverse monster eyes for your party.

    Pro Tips

This no-bake recipe is very simple, but there are a couple of things to bear in mind when making them.

    Get the Right Consistency.

When applying the gel frosting, be mindful of its consistency. Too runny, and it might slide off, too thick, and it might not adhere well to the cookie. Make sure the frosting is fully mixed, and in date when you use it.

    Creativity is Key.

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your monster eye cookies! Also don’t worry if they’re not all as perfect as you’d like! Experimenting with different sizes and colors for the eyeballs, or adding unique details with a food marker, can bring an extra level of fun and uniqueness to each cookie.

Remember, each monster eye cookie can have its own personality!
