    Ingredients for Snowman Pretzels

You'll only need 4 simple ingredients for these Snowmen Pretzels!

    • Pretzel Sticks: These small Pretzel Rods will become the head, hat, and hat brim for your snowmen.
    • White Almond Bark: Dipping the Pretzel Sticks in White Almond Bark will transform them into blocks of snow for the heads of the snowmen.
    • Chocolate Almond Bark: The hat for the Snowman Pretzels is coated in your choice of Milk Chocolate, Semi-Sweet Chocolate, or Dark Chocolate.
    • Christmas Sprinkles: These will be used to give your snowmen their special orange carrot noses, and flair for their hats.

How to Make Chocolate Pretzel Snowmen

    Melt Chocolate and Coat Pretzels

    1. Chop 3 blocks of White Almond Bark into small pieces, or use 1 cup of White Candy Melts. Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Stir the mixture and return it to the microwave to heat for an additional 30 seconds. Stir the mixture until it is smooth. If the chocolate hasn't melted fully then heat for a further 15 seconds and stir. Dip ¾ of a thin stick pretzel into melted white chocolate and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet. Dip another stick and place it directly next to the first pretzel, and repeat this until 6 or 7 of the stick pretzels are coated and stuck together. Allow the chocolate to set and harden.
    2. Chop 2 blocks of Chocolate Almond Bark into small pieces, or use about ⅔ of a cup of Chocolate Melting Wafers. Dip a pretzel stick into the melted chocolate making sure that it is fully coated. Carefully place the chocolate-coated pretzel stick onto the cookie sheet until the chocolate is fully set.

    Make Snowmen Heads with Hats

    1. Dip the uncoated ¼ of the white chocolate pretzels into the melted Chocolate Almond Bark to make the hat, and place the snowman head back on the cookie sheet. Before the chocolate sets, lay a single chocolate-coated pretzel stick across the top part of the pretzel head to form the brim of the hat.
    2. While the chocolate is still wet, add a couple of Christmas Sprinkles to the hat as an embellishment. I used a white and a blue snowflake, but use whichever sprinkle shapes you prefer.

    Add Snowmen Faces and Decorate

    1. Repeat this process for the rest of the snowmen you are making.
    2. Once the snowmen are assembled, pour the excess melted chocolate into a small sandwich bag. Use a pair of scissors to cut off a very small amount of one corner of the bag and use this pipe to make 2 dots for the snowman's eyes and 5 or 6 small dots for the mouth of the snowman's face. Add a dot of chocolate to the carrot sprinkle and place this on the face for the nose. Repeat for all of the snowmen, and allow the chocolate to fully set before touching them again.

    FAQs

Do I need to use a piping bag for this recipe?

Instead of a piping bag, I use a small sandwich bag with a tiny corner cut off to pipe the snowman's eyes and mouth, but a piping bag with a very thin nozzle would work just as well.

Can I use the refrigerator to set the chocolate quicker?

You can place the Pretzel Snowmen in the refrigerator for about 10–15 minutes to set the chocolate quickly.

Is this Pretzel Snowman recipe easy for kids to make?

Making Pretzel Snowmen is a great and easy activity for kids! Melting and handling the chocolate can be tricky and messy, though, so you'll need to be on hand to supervise and support them.

    Are Pretzel Snowman treats gluten-free?

Ordinary pretzels do contain gluten, so use gluten-free pretzels if you want to avoid the wheat in this snack.

    Storage & Freezing

Storage: Once the chocolate has set, you can store the Pretzel Snowmen in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 7 days at room temperature.

Freezing: The Pretzel Snowmen can be stored in a sealed container and frozen for up to 6 months. Place parchment paper between each layer to prevent them from sticking to each other.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Pretzel Sticks. If you're not a fan of Pretzels, you could try substituting them for something like a Graham Cracker, but it would take some prep. Using a sharp knife, slice a strip from one of the long sides to use as the hat brim, and then cut this strip and the remaining cracker down to the right size for the snowman. Then simply coat them in the chocolate, following the recipe instructions on how to dip and decorate.
    • White Almond Bark. You can use any kind of White Chocolate that melts well, such as White Chocolate Chips, White Candy Melts, or your favorite block of White Chocolate.
    • Chocolate Almond Bark. As above, use any brown chocolate that's good for melting, like Chocolate Chips (Milk Chocolate, Semi-Sweet, or Dark Chocolate), Chocolate Melting Wafers, or even chocolate Hershey's Kisses.
    • Substituting the Christmas Sprinkles. You can place Mini Chocolate Chips or brown Mini M&M's Candies onto the piped chocolate for the eyes and mouth, and use an orange Mini M&M for the orange noses instead of a carrot sprinkle. You could also use orange icing to pipe small triangle noses instead of using sprinkles, or use an orange candy that resembles a carrot nose.

    Pro Tips

    Set the Chocolate Faster

To reduce the time it takes for the chocolate to set on the pretzel sticks, you can place them in the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes.

    Parchment Paper Surface

Use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to place dipped pretzels on. They will easily peel off from the parchment paper when cooled and set. I use a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for a sturdy surface that you can transport easily, which is useful for placing in the fridge to help the chocolate on the snowmen set quicker.

How to Melt Chocolate (Almond Bark or Candy Melts)

It is quick and easy to melt almond bark or baking chocolate melts in the microwave. Follow this simple method to get a smooth and velvety finish every time!

    1. Break it up: Start by breaking or chopping the almond bark or chocolate melts into small pieces or shavings that are roughly the same size as each other to ensure they melt evenly.
    2. Place in a bowl: Transfer the broken chocolate pieces to a microwave-safe bowl, and place this in the microwave.
    3. Microwave it: Heat the chocolate at 50% power for 30 seconds at a time to avoid overheating. Make sure to stir well after each 30-second interval. Repeat this until the chocolate is mostly melted.
    4. Reduce time as needed: Reduce the microwave time to 15-second intervals when the chocolate is half melted. This helps to prevent overheating and allows the residual heat to continue melting the chocolate.
    5. Final stir: Once the chocolate is almost fully melted, stir it vigorously to melt any remaining solid pieces.

Patiently following these steps will give you a velvety, melted chocolate or almond bark that's easy to handle and will bring fantastic results to your baking session!
